BIS Capstone and Professional Portfolio
-by Garrett Boyd

About Me
My name is Garrett Boyd. I was born and raised in South Mississippi. I am 24 years old, and I have lived and worked in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Colorado. I love spending time with my family as well as fellowshipping with other Christians. Coming from a very small town, I enjoy interacting with my community and feeling as though I am making a positive difference. Transitioning to an urban environment was a cultural challenge, but I was able to reestablish this communal facet of my life through involvement with local politics. I have always held my sense of curiosity close, and I love challenges. I enjoy hunting, fishing, playing golf, and just about anything involving nature or competition. I am set to graduate from Louisiana State University in August of 2025 with plans to pursue a law degree.

BIS Capstone Research Problem
The Capstone Project serves as an integrative showcase for students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree of Interdisciplinary Studies at Louisiana State University. I was challenged with creating a research topic that, through exploration, could display the versatility of my minors in History, Business, and Political Science. This culmination of education involves integrating learning across minors as well as with real world experiences. The purpose is to show that my degree path has prepared me to tackle complex problems through the application of diverse learning. I chose to present something that I am quite passionate about, predatory lobbying. In my reflection, I dive into concepts like Shareholder Primacy and the effect that it has on the Iron Triangle. I then examine this relationship through the lens of the Opiod Crisis.

Resume
I've built my life around belief in belief in hard work and resilience. I enjoy working with people and interacting with the public. I started at 16, in the county's local pizza joint, learning how to come into financial independence. Since then, I have worked a wide range of jobs across multiple industries, across the country. Most recently, I have found success in retail sales, amassing over $300,000 career sales.
